NEW DELHI — The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth ₹810.79 crore with Bharat Dynamics Ltd (BDL) for the procurement of 160 satellite-guided anti-airfield weapons for the Indian Air Force (IAF). The order, finalized in late September 2026, marks a significant step in the indigenous development of precision-guided munitions designed to degrade adversary air capabilities during high-intensity conflicts.

Contract details and technical specifications

The agreement covers the supply of 160 units of the Satellite-Guided Anti-Airfield Weapon (SAT-SAAW). These weapons are engineered to be launched from long-range platforms to target and neutralise critical infrastructure at enemy airfields, including runways, hangars, and command centers. The use of satellite guidance ensures high accuracy even in contested electromagnetic environments, allowing the IAF to strike with precision from standoff distances.

Bharat Dynamics Ltd, a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, is the primary manufacturer of the system.
